Trail Overview

Forming the official Day 1 of the Cape Cross self-guided cycle, this ride takes you on a challenging, yet incredibly scenic route from Plett to Knysna via the impressive indigenous forests of Diepwalle and Gouna.

With only a short (20km) of tar from Plettenberg Bay’s town centre via the Bitou River valley to The Uplands, you’ll hit the gravel from this point all the way to your destination, Knysna. Wind your way up along  dirt tracks to Buffelsnek Forestry Station, where you’ll start your descent via the Dal van Varings picnic site towards Diepwalle. The Kom se Pad road then takes you through the epicenter of the original Knysna forest to Gouna. From here you leave the forest to follow the course of the Gouna River on the contours above the river gorge, before descending down to the river crossing.

The final section involves a tough climb out of the river gorge to hit the tar again at the entrance gate to Simola Hotel and Spa. From here you’ll enjoy the downhill bends of the famous Knysna Hill Climb road to finish up at the N2 just west of Knysna town centre.
